Curzon
BSA Media Study Group Seminar
 Gender, Crime and Media
Birmingham City University, Curzon Building, 8th June 2016

This one-day, interdisciplinary event aims to bring together diverse perspectives from academics and postgraduate students researching in the field of gender, crime and media. As well as panel presentations, there will also be the opportunity to participate in roundtable discussions. This participatory format will foster a dialogue between attendees and provide a networking opportunity and a platform for knowledge exchange. The theme of the event is purposefully broad and all encompassing, but some suggested themes include:

·       Media representations of gender and crime
·       Media representations of honour crimes/ violence
·       The abuse of women online
·       Revenge porn
·        Social media and violence against women
·       Young people and sexting
·        Feminist methodologies in media research

Papers that do not fit within these suggested themes, but fit within the overall scope of the seminar, are also welcome. Both full papers and works in progress are invited. Presentations are expected to be no longer than 20 minutes with the opportunity for 10 minutes of questions. Abstracts of 250 words are now welcome and the final date for submission will be Friday 6th May 2016. To submit an abstract and/ or register to attend this event, please contact Dr Charlotte Barlow (charlotte.barlow@bcu.ac.uk). Please feel free to submit roundtable discussion ideas via the same format
